I woke up to a whole lot of sunshine! It was -19 with the windchill when I headed out but the sun felt so warm.

And look who’s starting to show his lovely self — our bbq! Soon, the roommates and I will be out there with shovels digging the thing out.

Unfortunately, breakfast didn’t involve the bbq, but the next best thing: stovetop oatmeal with raspberry white tea.

And all together…

The oatmeal was a repeat of yesterday’s standard bowl (not A Third/Third/Third, but increased the mix to 1/2 a cup) with trailmix, hazelnut butter and blackberries. Raisins are hiding in there somewhere too.
And then, off to the gym to SPIN!
What’s so great about spinning?
I haven’t been spinning for very long but it’s one of my favourite cardio workouts. It’s low impact so if you have knee problems, it takes off a lot of the pressure that say, running, will put on your knees. Depending on the instructor, the music is usually pumping so loud that you forget how much your legs are burning and you get yourself into the zone, where finishing the class strong is the goal. Today, I noticed I focus much more on the push part of the spin cycle (thinking more about pushing through the quad muscles - the muscles on the top of your thigh) rather than the pull part (thinking about the hamstrings - the muscles underneath your thigh). As soon as I shifted my focus, thinking about pulling my leg up rather than pushing it down felt like a break! I will try to be more aware of that next time.
Unfortunately, I forgot my heart rate monitor strap so I couldn’t tell if my heart was actually going to explode or if it just felt that way.
Lunch was a good refuel once I got back home.

It seemed like a great day for soup slurping. This is the Knorr Red Soup - it’s got a hint of a spicey kick to it. Yum. It was joined with a turkey sandwich on ezekiel bread, topped with veggies and honey mustard. Carrot and cuke chunks with a few pickles made their way to my plate, too.

I’ll be back with afternoon snacks and supper in a bit. For now, back to my work.
