Aren’t long weekends fantastic? The holiday-day is the best. I’m always looking at the clock thinking, “on a regular Monday at this time, I’d probably be doing X”.
Instead, I was probably eating sushi. Or working out. Or hanging out with friends. Or napping. All of the above happened on labour day. All labours of lovvve.
I Eat
Labour day started with a pre-workout snack – nope, not the half nan + pb. A rice cake + pb + jam. I came home and ate this little mix of bliss:
Pumpkin + plain yogurt + berries + agave + cinnamon swirled together. Then I walked to the sushi restaurant and met up with friends and ate lots and lots of happy rolls.
More breakfast eats. Mmm oatbran + mini goblin brains + flax seeds + half nan + almond milk + cinnamon.
They do look like brains, eh?
Woops, how did a blueberry bar get in here? These are vegan too, as well as gluten free and cane sugar free, from FatFree Vegan Kitchen. The recipe is here.
So, leftovers are easy peasy. Always make more than you’ll eat in one sitting. Always always always. Doing that has saved me from many phone calls to the Swiss Chalet delivery guy, eating yet another bowl of oatmeal in a day (not that I’m against that…) and staring into the fridge, waiting for dinner to magically appear pre-made in front of my eyes.
This was leftover tilapia + corn cobby + brocc + taters.
Why does corn season have to end? I’d like to grow a small crop of winter-resistant corn in our backyard. I’m pretty sure the roommates would be all for it. The hard part would be developing the seed, but one of my sisters is a food scientist, so I’m sure she can figure that out.
Either that, or I’ll adhere frozen corn kernels to an empty paper towel roll with a buttery adhesive and imagine I’m eating corn on the cob. That would be easier.
In the meantime, I’m happy eating stuff like this…
Peach + honeydew + non-fat plain yogurt.
I Move
I started yesterday off with a sweaty gym session. I biked there and a back and did the elliptical for a half hour, to make yesterday an hour of power cardio day. After some quick ab work, that was it. Lots of walking also squeezed into the holiday.
Tonight, I ran and did 9.5k. So many bloggers talk about their running injuries – sore knees and shin splints seem to be most common. Well, you won’t read about that here. Leave it to me to have a more weird exciting running injury than those classics. What’s my deal? I kick myself in the ankle while I run.
It’s a true story. Towards the end of any run, I don’t know how it happens, but I somehow kick the inside of my right ankle (the outside would be quite impressive). Tonight I did it twice, with some serious force, within five strides. I did it to the point where I almost took myself out. Yeah.
So now my ankle is showing signs of bruising and blood. Does anyone else do this? Or is this just another indication of how I’m not destined to be a serious runner?
Adi

OMG I”VE DONE THAT BEFORE. when i walk, i hit my ankle. so the inside of my right ankle is like raw and kinda ripped up at times. =( i guess it might be do to you running with your toes out? i have no idea.
haah make a tortilla tent one day!
Oh man, I definitely kick myself in the ankle too! I kick my left ankle though, and I always end up with a small scratch on it…and I bleed.
I just say we’re that hardcore.
I kick myself like crazy too! Glad I am not the only give myself stupid running injuries person!
oh man, when you make winter resistant corn let me know! in season corn is like crackkkk
I think that yesterday on my first run in a very long time, I looked like a complete dork. All puffed up, face red as a monkey’s ass, not really going in a straight line…ugh.
Oh no! I’ve had self-inflicted running injuries, too. I hope it feels better!!
Your eats look SO good. I just ate dinner and now I feel like I should eat again.
LOL that is a very special running injury!! I’ve never heard of anyone doing that to themselves
maybe you should wear ankle pads?
