Blondie

If only I was talking about the delicious edible kind… sigh… nope, just referring to the new hair do.  Going to the hair dresser is one of my favourite things – it feels so indulgent to sit in a chair and have someone pay attention to your hair.  I grabbed a Starbucks tea before I went to the salon and while I was there, I munched on this guy:

Having a later and bigger breakfast than usual has thrown my eating off today and so did eating lots of loaf batter.   I finished up at the hair dressers mid-afternoon and then had to kill some time before the bus showed up, and quickly started feeling light headed.

Eat something, stat!

Good thing I threw an apple in my bag at the last second before I headed out for the afternoon.  What would I have done?!  Okay, I would have just bought an apple at the grocery store… anyways.

After I got home my spice loaves were staring at me, demanding to be taste-tested.  With a cup of raspberry white tea, I enjoyed this yummy slice.

This desserty loaf is ridiculously moist – but then again, that’s probably due to three cups of applesauce and 3/4 cup of yogurt.  That would moisten up a truck load of croutons, I’m sure.  I added raisins to the mix too, just because.

Lucky for me, this tasted awesome.  Also lucky for me, the $1.99 GF mix made 2 big loaves that I’ve since sliced and popped in the freezer.  Woohoo, desserts in the freezer!  That’s always awesome dangerous.

And then, bring on the sushi.  Lots and lots of sushi.  All-Adi-Can-Eat sushi.  Or, All-Adi-Thinks-She-Can-Eat-If-She-Were-A-300-Pound-Man-Competing-In-An-Iron-Man-Event.  Same difference.

And so good!  Here’s a collage of just a fraction of the shared eats with one great friend.  Good times! :)

I wavered in an out of a food coma and looked six months along afterward (my friend could attest to seeing this!  I am not exaggerating!) but man, this food was so tasty.  The yummy yummy roll is the best – and of course, wins the prize for best name, too.

I’m tired but today was a great Saturday.  Ready for Sunday?  No.  But after lots of sleep I should be.

Goodnight!

Solid Sleep

Saturday, May 16th, 2009

After 9 hours of sleeping like a rock, I’m ready to tackle Saturday… in a friendly, I’m-happy-to-see-you kind of tackle way.  Sleeping in is the best!  I still wake up at the usual quarter past six, but I can always fall back asleep.

Quick, look outside!  Check out that pig flying by! No oats today.

This breakie was pretty darn tasty though.  I felt like eating something that would take me longer to munch than a bowl of oats and would take me longer to make, too.  Tis’ Saturday after all.

I scrambled 2 eggs and added the last bit of chopped veggies into the pan (red onion + green pepper + red pepper + brocc) and had 2 pieces of GF cinnamon raisin bread.

Sweet and savoury.

may16b 001

This breakfast needed more than just this though – it desperately needed fruit.  I had a bowl of watermelon + half a nan + raspberries + blackberries.  A little bowl of plain yogurt made a good dip.

I have two GF spice loaves in the oven that I’m making from a mix I bought at the health food store.  It was marked down to $1.99 because the best before date was yesterday.  Fine by me!  The recipe is a bit odd (three cups of applesauce?!) and the batter tasted a bit… off.  I won’t knock it ‘til I try it… but I’m not holding my breath.

It’s pouring rain today which I knew would happen because anytime I book a hair appointment, it ends up raining or there’s a snow storm.  I kid you not, every time.  I never walk out of the salon like in one of the commercials with a big smile on my face and a skip in my step.  No, I actually look mad as I search my bag for my umbrella and then usually end up missing the bus, only to wait in the rain for longer.

But at least the hair looks decent.

Enjoy your Saturday morning all!

Oatied Out

Saturday, May 9th, 2009

I have a bad case of the munchies!  I haven’t stopped eating all day!  At least it’s all been delicious.  ;)

Lunch was rice bread with leftover tuna salad from yesterday and some tomato soup.

That’s a bad weather, Saturday lunch.

In the afternoon, I set out to make Heather’s oaties.  How can you not want to make something with a name like oatie?!

Here’s the bowl before I mixed in the toasted oats:

may9 011

There’s only one problem with this recipe: it’s way too good so I ended up eating a ton of the raw ‘batter’ before they made it to the oven.  These things are awesome!  I made mine with peanut butter + raisins + almonds + apricots + part honey/part agave.

I ate some granola with almond milk and half a bowl of oatie mix  while I baked.

may9 014

And then I dove into the pickle jar.  Yup.

may9 018

And more oatie mix followed.

I wasn’t very hungry for supper but I had roast beef in the oven all afternoon and wasn’t about to not enjoy it.  Meat haters, avert your eyes!

may9 023

I did get some veggies in, although not many, and I’ve been craving them this afternoon.  I’m almost out of produce… tomorrow is definitely grocery day.

may9 026

Dessert was a billion dates that I didn’t take a picture of and plain yogurt + blueberries.  And I ate an oatie so fast that I couldn’t take a picture!

Seriously, I am full, verging on uncomfortably so.

Movie watching time…

Goodnight!

Quality Control

Monday, April 27th, 2009

I’m not sure where I found any energy for the rest of the day, but I managed to get a lot done.  I went for a short walk to get a bus pass, made muffins (from a mix – fast fast fast), and cooked basmati rice for packed lunches and a couple servings of steel cut oats.

Okay, but now I am tired for real.  I just finished doing Gentle Hatha Yoga #1 and that Jackie, geez, I could listen to her for hours.  She could read the script to a violent action film and I’d still be sleepy.  Her voice is so calming!  Anyway, it felt awesome to stretch out – and on a brand new yoga mat, too!  I decided to treat myself today. :)

Supper was leek & carrot soup with a giant whole wheat bun.  I look about 6 months pregnant now – how does one bun do that much damage?  Oh well, all in the name of the gluten-free countdown!

I taste-tested a honey oat bran muffin.  I cut it in half and ate it in half a second.  It was an impressive chow down.

The muffins are now approved for donation.

Okay, and I admit the walk to get the bus pass was in hopes of helping my tummy feel better, not for the exercise.  It didn’t work but it was fun to walk in the rain. :)

I have a feeling this is going to be another hectic week.  The swine flu “pandemic” is probably going to make my job a little crazy but that’s what they pay me for!  Hmm, I’m still not used to the steady pay cheque concept.

Have a great Monday,
Adi

Butter Tart in a Bowl

Tuesday, April 7th, 2009

There is no better start to a Monday morning than having butter tart oat bran for breakfast.

monday 016

Oh yes, this was good.

monday 014

I had 1/2c. of oat bran topped with raisins, pecans, maple flakes, hazelnut butter  and a drizzle of maple syrup.  Cloud nine indeed.

Another lying lunch

See that little muffin?  I didn’t end up eating him (…at lunch…) because I was a bit nervous eating the sugar/gluten combo.  I had packed a chocolate mint Clif bar and ate half of that in place of Mr. Muffin.

monday 005

The salad was a good change!  Mixed greens with black beans, red cabbage, tomato.

monday 002

Almonds + dried apricots were the tea time snack.  The pear took a beating in my lunch bag and was a bit on the blah side.  Can’t win ‘em all.

Raid

I hit the fridge pretty hard after work.  I wasn’t hungry, I was just mad that I got stuck in a horizontal rain downpour while waiting for the bus.  A girl deserves some serious munching after that!

Okay, not exactly a good reason to eat, but I did and I move on. :)  I pounded the t-mix and lots of veggies + hummus.  No pictures because I was pretending that wasn’t happening… ha!

Taco my bell

I haven’t had tacos in ages.  These were awesome!  And the best part?  My boyfriend came over at 6pm, we went to the grocery store, grabbed the taco gear, and I had it on our plates by 6:30.

monday 018

I think we ate them in about 5 minutes because we promptly ran out the door to home church.  Cue the tummy ache!

Actually, I was fine for once. :)

Once I got back home, I remembered the little lonely zucchini cranberry muffin still tucked away un-eaten in my lunch bag.  I inhaled him.  He was good and I now I regret eating him… oh wheat.  Check out yesterday’s post for the recipe!

monday 003

I snacked on some more dried apricots too as I packed my lunch.

Since it’s Monday, I managed to put up a Monday Musings.  Be sure to give it a read (unless you’re tired… then go to sleep).

Goodnight!
