It must be the colour of my eyes – bugs are attracted to them. That’s the only explanation I have.
Earlier this summer, I got smoked in the eyeball by a massive bug. It threw me off so much I actually veered off the bike path and bawled my eyes out. Tonight was a repeat performance.
At the last minute, I decided I’d leave the shades at home. I’m biking merrily along (I was in a good mood – “merrily” is totally appropriate) and bam! the bug hits my eyeball. And it burned like… like… like last time. Unfortunately, I was on the road besides cars. I hit the curb but didn’t actually fall off my bike. I just made a big scene.
Do you know what happens when your eye is on fire? Your nose runs like a tap.
Or at least, mine does.
So after my eyeball hiatus, I continue on biking to the gym, only to arrive with a snot face, a bright pink eyeball and a swollen eye lid. What a prize.
But, I did have a stellar workout! So take that, crusty bug.
… I try not to think about this, but if you get something in your eye, i.e. a nasty a bug, and you don’t actually get it out, where does it go? I imagine people having little empty spaces behind their eyeballs where schmuck ends up… little bugs, eyelashes, dirt. Or in my case, two giant bugs. Okay, sorry, that’s enough.
Let’s talk food!
I Eat
I’ve been enjoying some yummer oatmeal the past couple mornings. Chilly fall air makes every bowl even more delish.
The bases have been the same: 1/2 c. oats + 1/2 c. almond milk + 1/2 c. water. I guess I’m into slivered almonds lately. And lots of almond butter.
Packed lunches have been the usual: lots of fruits, veggies and nuts, and some random bars. But I’ve had some turkey to eat! Leftovers from home!
Getting back into packed lunches after holidays is always a bummer. Especially when it involves packed gluten free bread. But this sandwich was pretty tasty. The bees especially loved it… grrr…
Tonight’s supper was also more turkey but not leftovers – a grilled piece. On the side are some sweet taters + mushrooms + red peppers. I sprinkled turkish curry on the veggies because turkish sounds like turkey so it went with the theme.
I was bummed at the lack of green on the plate until I told myself this was the colours of autumn. It was lame but it made me like it more. Ha!
Other suppers included a gluten free pizza meal…
And some rice pasta + chicken + mushrooms + peppers + spinach + jarred sauce for a quick Monday night dinner.
Dessert lately has been a whole lot of this:
Please don’t leave us, summer.
I Move
Yesterday I went for a 5 and a quarter km run. It was pretty blah. Seriously, I don’t know how some of you runners do it – how do you not get super bored? I know running with other people is suppose to help, but still, where is the excitement?! Oh well, good exercise anyway.
The gym tonight was great – once my eyeball stopped feeling wonky. I did some lower body weights while I was there, but the best part was still biking there and back! It’s been over a week without my little bicycle and how I missed him.
Walking to and from the office is still a go in this beautiful weather. It’s a great way to relax after work, and a nice way to enjoy the morning before I get to the office.
Hope your week is off to a great start! It’s already Wednesday tomorrow… that’s pretty great, eh?
Adi
