I’m in my track pants and hoodie, plopped on the couch, watching the Food Network. I mean it when I say it… this is my favourite way to spend a night! I’m pretty boring, I know.
My day was less than boring – in fact, it was ridiculous. Lots of work drama today made my Friday go by very fast. I’m so glad my oats had some sort of magical staying power this morning because they had to last me five hours. I didn’t get a chance to eat until that much later!
I had a puppy swimming in my hazelnut tea this morning.
This was a delish bowl of oat bran, a half cup serving, with half a banane + almond milk + pecans + raisins + raspberry jam + hazel peanut butter. Just writing about it makes me want a bowl…
Better than my arm
By the time I got to eat lunch today, I was starving. I wanted to eat my own hand off, but I figured my salad of mixed beans + spinach + tomatoes + cucumber + parsley + lemon juice + sea salt would taste better. Plus, I need my hand for work!
This lunch was satisfying. The best part was the Luna bar, the cranberry flavour one. I haven’t had this flavour in a long time and I forgot how good it is. It’s mildly sweet and on the dry side but it`s perfect with tea.
Fresh air
After a hectic day, I wanted to just be still. Do you ever that feeling? I walked the 30 minutes home from the office, and then changed into some exercise gear. I grabbed my knapsack and my water bottle, and headed back in the direction of my office. Nope, not back to work, but to a near by park.
I snapped some pics as I hiked around. The weather was nice but there was no one on the path. I was walking at a quick pace but it was still relaxing.
I got to the top of the gradual incline and sat on a bench for a few minutes, and soaked up this view:
I couldn’t help but think of everything I’m thankful for. Despite the craziness of my job today, I’m still thankful I have a job – that I generally love. Mmm fresh air.
Goodbye to my love
This is my last day of wheat. No more wheat from here on out. Tomorrow I have blood work and wheat is dead to me! I had to go out big though… I had to sink my teeth into something wheat-y, gluten-y and yummy as my farewell to wheat meal.
The choice was obvious: a sandwich from Dirienzo’s. This is a little Italian food place in Ottawa. They have a couple locations now and there’s one a stone’s throw away from my house. The place is famous for their sandwiches. Can you see why?!
This bread was super fresh and somewhat squishy inside, but with a decent crust. I was going to have the usual turkey sandwich, but when I looked at the sandwich board and saw the turkey + proscuitto option, I jumped on it. Plus, just saying that makes me feel like Giada from Everyday Italian.
This sandwich was also topped with lettuce + tomatoes + sundried tomatoes + mustard. Fab-u-lous sandwich.
Accompanying this perfect wheat-wich was my all-time favourite drink, diet root beer, artificial sweetener and all. This Friday evening has been absolute heaven.
Also on my walk back from the park, I stopped at the grocery store and got fruit. I knew I would crave something sweet after my sandwich so I bought cantaloupe + watermelon and I dipped it in a bit of plain yogurt.
I bet you didn’t realize cloud nine looked like the picture above!
After an hour and a half of walking in the sunshine and a busy day at work, and the usual Friday tiredness, I’m ready to call it a night. I think I’ll make some tea and do nothing the rest of the night. I’m anticipating the wheat tummy any moment now.
Tomorrow I’m going for brunch with a friend and have a to-do list a mile long! I love the weekend.
Have a great Friday night,
Adi
