Ugly Dome

Any guesses on this one?

… that picture is pretty unfair, I know.  Doesn’t it sort of remind you of a cartoon chick?  No?  Okay never mind.

How about this picture then:

You might have guessed by now – it’s a microwavable egg poacher.

And no, I have never made a poached egg any other way.  Granted, I’ve used various gadgets to do it, but I’ve never poached an egg on the stove.

I don’t need to with this baby!

All I do is spray the inside with a bit of PAM, crack the egg in, put the lid back on and pop it in the microwave for about 2 minutes on half power.  The steam builds up and the lid blows off, but the egg stays put.  The lid explosion is the best part of poaching.  It happens every time.

Sometimes the top part of the egg doesn’t cook completely in those two minutes.  If that happens, I just let the egg sit for a second and then stick ‘er right back in for another minute or so.

This gadget doesn’t really meet my definition of a gadget: an object that isn’t necessary but makes life in the kitchen easier.  Why?  Because it my eyes, it is necessary!  I wouldn’t be poaching eggs if it weren’t for this little cooker.

I give this gadget a solid 4.3 out of 5.  It loses .7 because it’s a boring colour and the lid is sort of alien-ish and as mentioned, the top part of the egg doesn’t always cook right.

… but 4.3 is high enough of a score for me to own not one, but two of these things!
